Kentucky basketball: 5-star center Edrice Adebayo commits to Wildcats
Kentucky coach John Calipari snagged his first big surprise of the year when 5-star center Edrice Adebayo — the No. 10 player in the country, according to 247Sports.com — announced he will be coming to Lexington with the Class of 2016.
Previously thought to be a shoo-in for North Carolina State, Adebayo’s future swung toward Kentucky over the past few days. 247Sports.com’s “Crystal Ball” went from a 100 percent prediction for N.C. State on Monday to 58/42 in favor of the Wildcats on Tuesday morning.
Every 247 expert who predicted Adebayo’s future over the past 24 hours said Kentucky would be the choice, indicating a late change of heart for the 6-foot-9, 232-pound big man from High Point Christian Academy (Pinetown, N.C.).
After making his announcement on The Mike & Mike Morning Show, Adebayo (nickname: “Bam”) will offically sign with the Wildcats at 6:30 pm ET.
Calipari has now roped in five players this year, including the nation’s No. 1 point guard, De’Aaron Fox, 5-star forwards Wenyen Gabriel and Sacha Killeya-Jones, 4-star forward Tai Wynyard (who reclassified to the Class of 2015) and Adebayo.
Kentucky is still in the running for 5-star guards Malik Monk and Kobi Simmons. The current signing period ends Wednesday.
