There have been improvements for Kentucky among the favorites in college basketball title odds, but the numbers favor another team.
Duke is the odds-on favorite to cut down the nets in the spring, according to Bovada, and the trends are promising for Blue Devils fans.
Duke’s 15/4 odds mean a $100 bet on the Devils would net $375 in winnings. Kentucky is tied with Kansas up next with 7/1 odds ($100 bet netting $700).
Duke is ranked No. 1 in the preseason Associated Press poll, Kentucky is No. 2 and Kansas is 3. No other SEC teams are ranked in the top 25.
According to Bovada, Kentucky had the second shortest odds (behind Duke’s 9/2) to win the title on April 6, two days after Villanova won the title against North Carolina.
Then, on Oct. 6, Duke’s odds improved to 4/1 and Kentucky slipped to 15/2, still better than Kansas at 10/1. As of Thursday, Duke, Kentucky and Kansas all had their odds improve to current levels.
Tennessee and Vanderbilt are among 10 teams tied for 40th in the odds at 200/1. The odds for the Vols have stayed steady throughout while the Commodores had 100/1 odds in the spring.
Arkansas and Mississippi State are among six teams tied for 50th in odds at 250/1. Arkansas was at 300/1 last month, while Mississippi State was at 100/1 in the spring and 300/1 last month.
Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss are among 13 teams tied for 56th with odds at 300/1. All three teams’ odds have decreased since 250/1 marks in the spring.
Auburn, LSU and Missouri are among 17 teams tied for 69th on the odds, clocking in at 500/1. Auburn was at 250/1 in the spring, LSU has fell from 100/1 in the spring and 300/1 last month, and Missouri was at 300/1 in the spring.
