LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky sophomore forward Sacha Killeya-Jones will head to Manchester, England, at the end of the month to attend training camp with the Great Britain national team.
Though Killeya-Jones hails from Chapel Hill, N.C., he is eligible to play for Britain because of his English-born mother, Ley.
Killeya-Jones, who fell out of Kentucky’s rotation last season once conference play started, is one of 24 players on the preliminary squad for Great Britain’s national team. Killeya-Jones hopes to be one of 12 players who makes the final cut to compete for Britain in the FIBA EuroBasket 2017.
The 6-foot-10 forward averaged 2.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 15 games last season for Kentucky.
Killeya-Jones is among a number of Wildcats to compete for his national team this summer. Hamidou Diallo and P.J. Washington competed for Team USA at the U-19 FIBA World Cup earlier this month while junior Tai Wynyard played for New Zealand.
