LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky and West Virginia will square off for the fourth time in the last seven years as the Wildcats have drawn a road matchup to Morgantown for the 2018 Big 12/SEC Challenge.
The game will be played Jan. 27. Game times for the Big 12/SEC Challenge games will be announced at a later date.
Coach John Calipari is 2-1 against West Virginia coach Bob Huggins, but their previous three meetings all came in the NCAA Tournament — 2010, 2011 and 2015.
The Wildcats rolled the Mountaineers 78-39 in their last matchup at the Midwest Regional semifinals in Cleveland. Kentucky leads the all-time series 15-5 and is 9-1 against West Virginia in its last 10 games.
Both teams made a deep run in the 2017 NCAA Tournament. Kentucky fell to North Carolina in the Elite Eight while West Virginia was topped by Gonzaga in the Sweet 16. West Virginia returns its top two scorers from last year, Jevon Carter and Esa Ahmad.
Add West Virginia to the list of Kentucky’s non-conference opponents that already includes: Kansas (Nov. 14), Harvard (Dec. 2), Monmouth (Dec. 9), Virginia Tech (Dec. 16) and UCLA (Dec. 23).
It’s the fifth year for the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Kentucky was paired with Kansas last season at Rupp Arena, a game the Jayhawks won 79-73.
