Kentucky is 4-1, but it could easily be 1-4 this season.
Instead, the Wildcats are tied with UGA for second place in the SEC East.
Their sole loss came to then-unranked Florida, 14-9, two weeks ago. Florida remains undefeated and is now No. 11 in the latest AP Poll.
Kentucky performed magic by edging out Eastern Kentucky 34-27 in overtime on Saturday, with defensive tackle Cory Johnson’s game-ending sack sealing the victory.
That extended the Wildcats’ penchant for close games, all of which have been decided by single digits this season:
- Louisiana-Lafayette (40-33 win)
- South Carolina (26-22 win)
- Florida (14-9 loss)
- Missouri (21-13 win)
- Eastern Kentucky (34-27 OT win)
“We just feel very fortunate. That’s the word that jumps out at me right now,” coach Mark Stoops told reporters after Saturday’s win over Eastern Kentucky.
The Wildcats have a week off as they prepare for Auburn in sold-out Commonwealth Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 15.
Kentucky must improve in all aspects if it wants to make some noise in the SEC East.
The Wildcats face Auburn, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Georgia over the next five weeks.
It's crazy to think about just how fine the line is between 5-0 and 0-5 for this Kentucky team.
