LEXINGTON, Ky. — The partnership between Kentucky and Kroger can already be seen with the new Kroger Field lettering on the outside of the stadium, but the sponsorship deal will affect fans as well.
Fans with Kroger Plus Cards will have priority lines of entrance at Gate 6 of Kroger Field. Bringing a canned food item will also gain priority entrance to Gate 6. The cans will be donated to God’s Pantry on behalf of Kroger.
“The first months of our partnership with Kroger have been productive,” athletics director Mitch Barnhart said in a press release. “When we made the announcement in May, we believed we had found a partner that shares our commitment to making this state and this university the best they can be. Our work together to this point has shown us that Kroger is exactly that kind of partner. We look forward to our fans and the people of our state experiencing the fruits of our partnership.”
The changes will extend beyond Gate 6 and into the stadium. Concession stands will offer the Kroger Meal Deal and Kroger’s Simple Truth brand will be offered throughout the lower concourse.
Kroger customers will also be invited to a free VIP tailgate before every home game. Details will be announced at a later date.
“We could not be more honored to be a part of this comprehensive partnership,” Ann Reed, president of Kroger’s Louisville division, said. “We look forward to showing what can be accomplished when two iconic brands like UK and Kroger, which have similar values, work together on our shared community priorities.”
Kentucky is the first SEC school to sell naming rights for its football stadium.
Kentucky’s first game at Kroger Field will be at noon ET on Sept. 9 against Eastern Kentucky. The Wildcats open the season at 4 p.m. ET Sept. 2 at Southern Miss.
