Kentucky football: Pregame notes from Kentucky-South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Kentucky and South Carolina kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C.

It’s about one hour until kickoff, and here’s what we see.

  • Kentucky freshman wide receiver Lynn Bowden was taking a few snaps from center Bunchy Stallings in pregame warmups. Bowden could be a weapon against South Carolina because the Wildcats haven’t been able to tip their hand in how he’ll be used. But don’t be surprised to see him run the wildcat and maybe even pass out of it.
  • Quarterback Stephen Johnson was on the field throwing, but he was also… kicking? That’s right, the UK quarterback was shanking a few field goals. It looks like he’s loose. He’ll again have to be Kentucky’s calming influence in what should be a rowdy road game.
  • Switching sports, 5-star forward Zion Williamson is on the field talking to South Carolina basketball coach Frank Martin. Williamson is the No. 2 player in the 2018 class and Kentucky and South Carolina are two contenders to land him. It might be a two-sport competition tonight in Columbia.
