It’s a busy month on the Kentucky football recruiting trail with several prospects wanting to get their commitment out of the way before their senior season begins.
The Wildcats added a commitment Wednesday night and followed it up with another Thursday afternoon. Kentucky is up to 18 commitments with a big decision looming later this month.
Where Kentucky’s recruiting class ranks
Kentucky enters the weekend ranked as the No. 16 class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. Kentucky jumped from No. 18 to No. 16 after 3-star cornerback prospect Jamari Brown committed Thursday.
Kentucky’s 2018 class is ranked fifth in the SEC, but there’s a large gap between UK and LSU — the fourth-ranked class in the conference. The Wildcats are ranked just ahead of Mississippi State and South Carolina.
Michigan and Clemson are the two schools ranked ahead of Kentucky in the national rankings.

Kentucky’s first commitment of the week came Wednesday night as 3-star cornerback Stanley Garner (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) picked Kentucky over Alabama and Louisville. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound prospect is the 46th-ranked cornerback in the 2018 class and the 75th-ranked Florida prospect, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

3 top uncommitted Kentucky targets
ATH Blue Smith, 4-star, Dayton (Ohio)
Blue Smith is down to a pair of choices: Kentucky and Ohio State. He’s not expected to announce until sometime around Aug. 25, but Smith’s mind is already made up, as he told Scout.com’s Bill Greene.
“There was a lot of factors that went into it,” Smith told Greene of his decision. “I talked to my family, I talked to my friends, I prayed, I talked to God every night. It’s one of those big decisions. There’s a lot of things going into it: What I want to major in, how well is it for my family to come see me?”
Smith, who’s expected to play wide receiver or tight end in college, is the No. 3 athlete in the country and the 115th-ranked overall prospect.
Ohio State is the 82 percent favorite to land Smith, according to the 247Sports crystal ball.
OLB Christopher Oats, 4-star, Cincinnati (Ohio)
Christopher Oats is the No. 10 prospect in Ohio and a top-300 player nationally, according to 247Sports. Cincinnati might be the favorite to land Oats, and Ohio State is a contender, as well.
TE Leonard Taylor, 4-star, Springfield (Ohio)
Leonard Taylor is yet another 4-star Ohio prospect coach Mark Stoops and company are in contention for. Kentucky already has two tight end commits in Bates and Upshaw, but Taylor is the highest-ranked of the bunch. He’s the No. 14 tight end in the country and a top-300 national prospect, according to 247Sports.
Ohio State and Oklahoma are two competitors Kentucky has for Taylor.
