The media voted three Kentucky defenders to its all-SEC preseason teams during SEC Media Days in Hoover, Alabama.
Defensive end Denzil Ware was voted to the second team. Linebacker Jordan Jones and defensive back Mike Edwards were voted to the third team.

Ware registered 70 tackles, 12 for loss, and 5.5 sacks as a sophomore in 2016. Jones led the team with 109 tackles in 2016, adding 15.5 for loss and four sacks. Edwards — who represented the Wildcats at SEC Media Days — had 100 tackles and three interceptions last season.
On Friday, Edwards was also named to the Jim Thorpe Award watchlist, an award given annually to college football’s top defensive back.
No Kentucky offensive players made any preseason all-SEC teams. Running back Benny Snell was likely the Wildcats’ best option after rushing for 1,170 yards and 7 touchdowns as a freshman. LSU’s Derrius Guice and Georgia’s Nick Chubb were the first-team all-SEC running backs.
Kentucky picked to finish fifth in the SEC East
In addition to the preseason all-SEC teams, the media predicted the order of finish in the SEC. While the Wildcats were mentioned as a dark-horse contender in 2017, the media still picked them to finish fifth in the SEC East — but just behind South Carolina.
The Wildcats had 869 points, just behind the Gamecocks’ 897. The media predicted Georgia would win the East, just nudging Florida atop the standings.
Of course, the media picked Alabama to win the SEC West and also predicted the Crimson Tide as SEC champions.
