Kentucky has hired Florida International University defensive coordinator Matt House as its inside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator, the team announced in a press release Thursday.
“I’m very excited to bring Matt into the program,” Kentucky coach Mark Stoops said. “He brings a wealth of experiences from the NFL and college football. I’ve spoken before about how I like having coaches with defensive coordinator experience in the staff room and Matt has that as well.”
House served as FIU’s defensive coordinator for one season after head coach Ron Turner hired him away from Pittsburgh, where he spent two seasons in the same role. He has also served four years in the NFL in various roles.
FIU’s defense finished seventh in Conference USA in scoring defense (29.8 points allowed per game), seventh in total defense (406.1 yards allowed per game) and tied for ninth with 18 takeaways last season under House.
House replaces former UK linebackers coach, Andy Buh, who left the program to take the defensive coordinator position at Maryland in April.
“I’m excited to work with Coach Stoops, as he has a great reputation for defense,” House said. “I wanted the opportunity to be at a great university that competes in the best conference in college football.”
