LEXINGTON, Ky. — Matt Elam, Kentucky’s clog in the middle of its defensive line, missed the Vanderbilt game, but coach Mark Stoops expects to have him back against Mississippi State.
The 6-foot-7, 360-pound nose guard was unexpectedly not dressed out against the Commodores with an undisclosed injury. The Wildcats have Saturday off before facing Mississippi State at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at Commonwealth Stadium.
“I would expect him to be back by the Mississippi State game,” Stoops said on the SEC teleconference Wednesday. “If he doesn’t have any setbacks, and looks like that is going to happen. Or it has to this point. He’s progressing and getting better and better so we’ll see moving forward here in the next week and a half.”
Elam, who primarily plays against big offensive sets, has four tackles on the season.
