We’re used to seeing Kentucky offer (and earn commitments from) 5-star prospects. That’s the luxury of being a blue blood program — you can wait until a guy has established himself as a superstar to offer but still have a really good chance to land his signature.
But every once in a while John Calipari will be the one beating everyone else to market on a player, and his latest scholarship offer seems to be a prime example of that. On Tuesday, the Wildcats extended an offer to 2018 power forward Jaxson Hayes, a three-star from Cincinnati:

The 230th-ranked player in America, according to 247Sports, Hayes currently stands 6-foot-10 and weighs 195 pounds. While his ranking is probably not what Kentucky fans are used to, Hayes does have some other good offers from schools like Texas, Butler, and Xavier, among others.
Still, it seems at this time that Kentucky sees something in Hayes that most other schools don’t. In turn, that could mean that Hayes’ stock is about to rise rapidly.
