LEXINGTON, Ky. — Scout.com has released its final ranking of the top 100 high school prospects in the Class of 2017 and Kentucky’s seven new additions (plus three remaining targets) all made the cut. In fact, most got a bump up in the rankings.
The Wildcats already have No. 10 Hamidou Diallo (shooting guard), No. 11 Jarred Vanderbilt (power forward), No. 14 P.J. Washington (power forward), No. 16 Nick Richards (center), No. 22 Quade Green (point guard), No. 39 Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (combo guard) and No. 85 Jemarl Baker (shooting guard).
They also remain in the mix for No. 2 Mohamed Bamba (center), No. 9 Kevin Knox (small forward) and No. 76 Mark Smith (point guard). Interestingly, for all the talent coming in, even if Kentucky lands Bamba — which it is still considered the favorite to do — the Cats will not have the highest-rated recruit in the SEC next season.
Missouri has signed the No. 1 player in the class, small forward Michael Porter, while Alabama has landed point guard Collin Sexton, who checked in at No. 6 overall in Scout’s final ranking. All told, there are 21 top-100 recruits committed to or signed with SEC schools right now. Eleven programs have gotten at least one such coveted prospect.
The rest of the list: No. 24 Nick Weatherspoon (Mississippi State), No. 30 Daniel Gafford (Arkansas), No. 41 Chuma Okeke (Auburn), No. 44 Davion Mitchell (Auburn), No. 45 John Petty (Alabama), No. 51 Jamarko Pickett (Ole Miss), No. 52 Rayshaun Hammonds (Georgia), No. 56 Savion Flagg (Texas A&M), No. 59 Alex Reese (Alabama), No. 75 Chase Johnson (Florida), No. 77 Saben Lee (Vanderbilt), No. 97 Devontae Shuler (Ole Miss).
247 Sports also released its final 2017 player rankings Wednesday and there were two surprises as it relates to Kentucky: Gilgeous-Alexander vaulted to 23 spots up to No. 19 overall and new 5-star status, while Green slipped three spots to No. 30 overall and just outside of 5-star status. Vanderbilt was No. 8, Diallo No. 10, Richards No. 14, Washington No. 18 and Baker No. 83 in the final 247 ranking.
