Mike Edwards, a redshirt sophomore expected to contribute at safety for Kentucky this season, will miss the team’s spring game due to an injury he suffered Tuesday that required a trip to the hospital, coach Mark Stoops said, per Larry Vaught.
Stoops added that Edwards “will be fine,” but did not mention when he might return.
Edwards started five games and appeared in 12 for the Wildcats last season after redshirting while rehabbing a shoulder injury. He recorded 39 tackles, including a season-high eight against Tennessee, and forced one fumble.
Edwards was named SEC Freshman of the Week last year after he had a pick-six, his only interception of the year, in a 58-10 win against Charlotte. His performance earned praise from Stoops.
“Mike Edwards has earned the right to be on the field almost at all times,” Stoops said before the team’s game against Georgia last season, per Jen Smith of the Herald-Leader.
