Kentucky softball defeated Illinois 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in the winners’ bracket of the Wildcats’ NCAA regional.
UK got the job done with a fourth-inning sacrifice fly that scored freshman designated player Bailey Vick. The rest was covered in the circle, as Kentucky’s Meagan Prince shut down the Illini attack.
Prince went the distance, yielding only 3 hits and striking out 3.
Illinois starter Breanna Wonderly was also dominant. She permitted just 3 hits but a walk and a pair of hit batters in the fourth led to UK’s run.
Kentucky is 2-0 in the Lexington regional after a 6-0 victory over DePaul on Friday. DePaul now will face Marshall in an elimination game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET.
The Wildcats have now advanced to the regional final on Sunday (noon ET). A second game will follow should UK drop the first.
