LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky softball opened postseason play with a 6-0 victory against DePaul. The Wildcats did the bulk of their damage with 5 runs in the first inning.
The 14th-seeded Wildcats were led by starting pitcher Meagan Prince, who allowed 2 hits, 1 walk and struck out 5 in 6 innings. Prince lowered her ERA to 1.91 and secured her 20th win of the season.
Wildcats catcher Jenny Schaper and second baseman Alex Martens drove in 2 runs each, and both recorded a double. The Wildcats finished with 8 hits coming from six batters.
What’s next for Kentucky?
The Wildcats face Illinois at noon ET on Saturday at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington, Ky. Illinois beat Marshall 3-2 in a 12-inning affair in the first game Friday. Illinois is 38-18 on the year and finished 14-8 in Big Ten play.
Kentucky’s game against DePaul was slated to start at 2:30 p.m. ET Friday, but it was pushed to a 4:05 p.m. start because of the earlier extra innings game.
