LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky quarterback Stephen Johnson was a guest on the Paul Finebaum Show on Friday afternoon at Rupp Arena, and ahead of Wednesday’s National Signing Day he talked a little recruiting.
The Wildcats basketball team takes on Kansas at 6 p.m. ET Saturday and a few football recruits will be visiting. The excitement around the 4th-ranked Wildcats only helps the football program, Johnson said.
“It means a lot to us,” Johnson said on the show. “It brings a different atmosphere to our college. Just having the basketball team do so well like they are, it creates a year-round vibe for us to just have more energy for the school. It’s great for recruiting as well.”
Kentucky’s 2017 football recruiting class projects as one of the best in school history. Rivals and 247Sports rank both have the class ranked in the top 25 nationally.
“It’s just really cool to see the guys that come in knowing you were once in that spot,” Johnson said. “To see those guys and how happy they are, how amazed they are with the facility and the program.”
Kentucky is coming off its first bowl appearance since 2010. Johnson led the Wildcats to all 7 of its wins and will be the presumed starter heading into next season.
And just before he left the set, the Kentucky quarterback made sure to flash Ls down. Johnson’s performance against Louisville was his best of the season — 338 passing yards and 3 passing touchdowns.
