It does not take long for NBA draft gurus to turn their attention from the draft that was recently completed Thursday and turn their attention to next year’s draft.
It is a long way away. And knowing that many in the class are incoming freshmen, and there will certainly be players who improve from last year to this year, it is hard to say exactly how the draft class will shake out.
One thing is for sure, the NBA draft could have a Kentucky flavor once again. Without a player like Ben Simmons, the first overall pick in 2016, to make a LSU cameo for the SEC, the best players in the SEC for the NBA are still likely to come from Kentucky.
In an early 2017 NBA Mock Draft from Gary Parrish of CBS Sports, he has just three SEC players — all from Kentucky — taken in the first round. That group is led by incoming freshman Malik Monk (No. 6). Bam Adebayo (No. 12) and De’Aaron Fox (No. 15) also made the list.
There is still a full year before the next NBA draft takes place. So there will certainly be a lot of shifting and changing as those players hit the floor and play games next season.
Kentucky will have plenty of players NBA scouts will be watching though in 2017.
