Kentucky allowed the overmatched Missouri Tigers to lead for 41 seconds on Tuesday night at Rupp Arena. The Tigers led 2-0 in the early stages of the contest before a 20-0 run sparked the Wildcats to an easy 88-54 win over Mizzou.
The Wildcats have strung together three impressive conference wins in a row after dropping their fourth game of the season two weeks ago. This young team might be hitting its stride as a pivotal non-conference matchup with Kansas awaits.
The turning point: A 3-pointer from junior forward Derek Willis put the Wildcats up 3-2 with 19:01 to play. It was all she wrote after that. Kentucky scored 20 unanswered points during a run that lasted four and a half minutes to put the fledgling Tigers away early.
MVP: Willis. It’s tough to pick a MVP when so many players had their share of success, but Willis scored 18 points, shot 4-of-5 from 3-point range and pulled down 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the year.
Starting lineup: Jamal Murray, Isaiah Briscoe, Tyler Ulis, Derek Willis, Alex Poythress
Off the bench: Skal Labissiere, Marcus Lee, Charles Matthews, Isaac Humphries, Mychal Mulder, Jonny David, E.J. Floreal
What’s next: Sat., Jan. 27 at N0. 4 Kansas (7 p.m. ET, ESPN)
