INDIANAPOLIS — Kentucky is looking to begin the road to national title No. 9 while Northern Kentucky is making its NCAA Tournament debut. The in-state opponents face off on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Norse are in a new environment but the motto in their locker room on the eve of the tournament was “faceless and nameless.”
“It doesn’t matter if we’re playing a high school team, Kentucky or the Lakers,” NKU sophomore forward Drew McDonald said.

- Kentucky enters its 57th NCAA Tournament and its seventh under coach John Calipari. The Wildcats own eight national championships, including their most recent in 2012.
- Kentucky’s lone appearance at Bankers Life Fieldhouse came on Nov. 18, 2014, in Game 2 of the State Farm Champions Classic. The top-ranked Wildcats dismantled No. 5-ranked Kansas, 72-40.
- The Wildcats open tournament play this week against in-state foe Northern Kentucky in a No. 2 vs. No. 15 matchup that mirrors a similar draw in 2005. In ’05, the No. 2-seed Wildcats downed No. 15 Eastern Kentucky, 72-64, at the RCA Dome.
