It was all football talk on Tuesday’s Wildcat Country podcast, your daily podcast presented by SEC Country Kentucky. Football beat writer Joe Mussatto joined host Curtis Burch to preview the Governor’s Cup. Kentucky and Louisville kick off at noon ET Saturday at Kroger Field.
Here’s a rundown of the conversation.
- Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson hasn’t been mentioned as a Heisman frontrunner after winning the trophy a year ago, but Jackson’s stats are almost as good as the gaudy numbers he put up last season. This week’s prediction post includes a few fun in-game over-unders involving Jackson. Will he surpass 400 yards of total offense? Will Jackson pile up more individual yards than the entire Kentucky offense? Joe and Curtis give their thoughts on what kind of game the star Louisville quarterback could have.
- Kentucky will be without one of its key offensive players on Saturday in junior tight end C.J. Conrad. He underwent surgery on Tuesday for a left foot injury. Many wanted Conrad to be more involved in the pass game, but his blocking ability in the run game might be more dearly missed. It’ll be up to fellow tight ends Greg Hart and Justin Rigg to shoulder the load. Conrad will also miss Kentucky’s bowl game at the end of next month.
- Curtis and Joe also discuss Tuesday’s Kentucky Question of the Day: If junior college quarterback prospect Terry Wilson signs for Kentucky, what does that mean for guys like Drew Barker and Gunnar Hoak. Could any of Kentucky’s current quarterbacks be looking to transfer?
Those are just a few of the topics covered in Wednesday’s edition of Wildcat Country. Curtis and Joe also gave their score predictions for the Kentucky-Louisville game.
