Kentucky’s defense will unexpectedly return two of its top defensive players in 2018, outside linebacker Josh Allen and safety Mike Edwards.
On the latest episode of Wildcat Country, SEC Country’s daily Kentucky podcast, host Curtis Burch and football beat writer Joe Mussatto discuss what Allen and Edwards’ return means for coach Mark Stoops’ defense.
While no one can dispute a Kentucky defense with Allen and Edwards is better than one without them, it’s not clear if better results will be in store for the defense. Kentucky returns 10 starters from a defense that ranked 93rd in the nation — 79th against the run and 103rd against the pass.
The key will be the growth Kentucky gets from younger players surrounding veterans such as Allen and Edwards.
Among other topics Curtis and Joe discussed on the podcast:
- What’s the latest on Kentucky’s search for a 10th assistant coach?
- Former Louisville 5-star signee Brian Bowen has landed at South Carolina.
- Curtis reveals where he finished in SEC Country’s bowl contest. Joe and Kyle were lame and didn’t participate.
- Time for another movie review. We’re still trying to figure out a good ratings system, but Joe gives his thoughts on Molly’s Game.
