Quade Green had his eye swell shut last week against Monmouth, and his status was up in the air. He ended up getting cleared to play Saturday against Virginia Tech, but to be safe, Green is wearing a pair of protective glasses, aka rec specs.
And these aren’t the goofy-looking goggles that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or Kurt Rambis used to rock. These rec specs have a modern-day flair.
So far, the goggles aren’t giving Green much of a problem. He leads the Wildcats in scoring with 10 points and has added 3 assists. He is a major reason the Wildcats have been able to keep it close against the Hokies. Kentucky trails 47-41 at halftime.
Here is another look at Green in the pregame warm-ups:

On Friday, coach John Calipari spoke about the importance of Green to this Kentucky team.
“Quade’s ability to score, without him, it hurts us,” Calipari said. “It’s more than everybody understands. He’s a consistent guy that gets buckets. It’s just in his DNA. That not being there would put us in a tough position going into this game.”
