Kentucky linebacker Josh Forrest had made it to the NFL. Forrest was drafted in the sixth round by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Forrest racked up 93 tackles, six tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks during his senior season at UK. He also had two interceptions and broke up five passes last season.
Forrest has tremendous size for the position at 6-foot-3, 249 pounds. He’s a versatile prospect who played at multiple positions for the Wildcats. Scouts are impressed with Forrest’s agility, quickness and closing speed, but are concerned with his lackluster strength and inconsistent motor. Forrest posted a 4.91-second 40-yard dash time and was projected as a fifth or sixth-round selection.
Forrest is the second SEC player taken by the Rams in this year’s draft. The Rams drafted South Carolina wide receiver Pharoh Cooper in the fourth round.
It’s tricky to define what Forrest’s role will be in Los Angeles, as the Rams could try him out as an edge rusher or as an interior linebacker. The Rams also have a crowded front seven, which means Forrest will likely serve as a backup during his rookie season if he earns a roster spot.
