Malik Monk took home one of the most prestigious honors in the country on Friday night, as he was named the top player at his position in the country.
The freshman guard was named the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year award winner, given annually to the nation’s top shooting guard.

Monk averaged 19.8 points per game and shot 39.7 percent from the field. He had a number of memorable games throughout the season, such as his 47-point outburst against North Carolina during the regular season. Monk scored more than 30 points in a game four different times on the season.

Unfortunately for Kentucky fans, Monk will be headed to the NBA after his one season. He, along with De’Aaron Fox declared for the draft and signed with agents. Kentucky’s season ended in the Elite Eight with a loss to North Carolina. The guard from Arkansas is also widely regarded as a top-10 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.
