LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A College Football Playoff bracket is hanging in Kentucky’s weight room with only one school filled in: Kentucky. And while the in-house expectations may be as high as ever, coach Mark Stoops’ squad was picked to finish 5th in the SEC East by the league’s media.
“I’ve seen second, I’ve seen fifth,” Stoops said Friday at the Greater Louisville Alumni Luncheon. “What does it matter? I’m really concerned about where we finish at the end of the year. That’s our concentration.”
Kentucky finished 7-6 last season — a campaign that ended with a 28-point underdog win at Louisville and the Wildcats’ first bowl appearance since 2010.
UK is thought to be in the thick of the SEC East this season behind division favorites Florida and Georgia. The end goal isn’t clear, but the College Football Playoff poster gives a glimpse into what players are talking about.

Stoops said Corey Edmond, Kentucky’s director of performance, was responsible for the poster.
“That was some guys in the weight room, but again, our coaches, our players, we train to be the very best,” Stoops said. “Coach Ed put that up in the weight room and I’m all for it. We’re always going to stride to be the very best we can be.”
