Kentucky football returned to action after a bye week and was promptly dismantled by Mississippi State, losing 45-7 in Starkville on Saturday.
The Wildcats (5-2, 2-2 SEC) manages just 260 total yards against the Bulldogs. Quarterback Stephen Johnson completed 13 of 28 passes for 117 yards and 2 interceptions.
Here’s what Mississippi State coaches and players said about the Wildcats after the game:
Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen
“That was an excellent team we just played in Kentucky. You watch them on film. The plays they have, the scheme that they have. They have really good players, and I know Mark [Stoops] does a good job.”
Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald
“It’s huge. Anytime you can play in front of your home crowd for homecoming, against an SEC opponent, and get a big win like that is spectacular. It’s great. Now we just have to turn our view ahead into our away game [at Texas A&M on Saturday].”
Mississippi State defensive back Dez Harris
“With any offense, you focus on one thing, stopping the run. I think we did a pretty good job out of that, and whenever we stop the run, we had pretty good pass-rushing. We were able to force 2 picks.”
