Former Kentucky offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson was brief when describing his coaching ability.
The former offensive coordinator, who is now at Southern Miss, took what may be a perceived shot at his past Kentucky quarterbacks. In a video posted by Southern Miss sports, Dawson said, “Typically, if I have a good quarterback, I’m a pretty good coach,” Dawson said. “And typically, if I don’t, I’m not a very good coach.”
Patrick Towles saw Dawson’s comments and had a simple response but Towles has since deleted his tweet. Towles was the primary quarterback for the Wildcats’ 5-7 2015 campaign
Towles tweeted another response shortly afterward. One that he did not take down and was much more complimentary of Dawson.
I love that guy, and he loves me. Words get twisted all the time.

The Kentucky offense struggled mightily last year under Dawson. The Wildcats ranked 89th in total offense last year. Towles and Dawson both left the school, with Towles transferring to Boston College and Dawson taking a job at Southern Mississippi.
Drew Barker is expected to be the starter for Kentucky this year, and Eddie Gran is the offensive coordinator. The Wildcats open the season against Dawson and Southern Mississippi on Sept. 3. Southern Miss finished 12th in total offense last year.
