Kentucky coach Mark Stoops is reportedly on the verge of filling an open defensive assistant position on his staff.
Stoops is close to hiring Florida International defensive coordinator Matt House, according to a report from the Courier-Journal‘s Jon Hale. House would take on the role of inside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator, according to the report.
The open spot on the Wildcats staff was created when former outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator Andy Buh left the program during spring practice to take the Maryland defensive coordinator job. Wildcats defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot is expected to coach the outside linebackers after being in charge of the inside linebackers for the previous three seasons.
Prior to joining Florida International as the defensive coordinator, House served in the same role for two seasons at Pittsburgh. He also had previous college football stints as a secondary coach and defensive line coach, as well as three seasons in the NFL as a special teams assistant and defensive quality control coach.
