LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky continued its gradual climb in the SEC Country Power Poll by moving up another spot following its win against Vanderbilt.
Kentucky (3-3, 2-2 SEC) jumped ahead of Mississippi State to No. 10 in the poll after slipping past Vanderbilt 20-13 on Saturday.
The poll consists of 17 voters, including ones from SEC Country and around the nation.
The Wildcats win leveled their overall and conference record and kept the Commodores winless in conference. Vanderbilt stayed at No. 14 at the bottom of the SEC Country Power Poll.
Kentucky has a week off, giving coach Mark Stoops’ squad an extra week to prepare for the team it just passed in the poll: Mississippi State. The Wildcats host the Bulldogs on Oct. 22. The game time will be announced Monday.
Mississippi State (2-3, 1-2 SEC) travels to BYU for a non-conference matchup Saturday. The Bulldogs were blown out over the weekend 38-14 by Auburn. Coach Dan Mullen’s team notched its only conference win against South Carolina earlier in the season.
The Kentucky-Mississippi State series dates back to 1914 and the Bulldogs lead 22-21. Mississippi State has owned the series of late, beating Kentucky seven times in a row including a 42-16 thumping last year in Starkville, Miss.
Kentucky was ranked No. 13 in the poll through three weeks, but after two conference wins, the Wildcats are at their highest standing of the season at 10th in the poll.
