With Barack Obama no longer in office, Kentucky senator Mitch McConnell has taken the 44th president’s place in ESPN’s annual bracket selection by a prominent politician.
True to his bluegrass roots, McConnell ultimately decided on a Final Four matchup between the state’s arch rivals: the Kentucky Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals.

Kentucky fans will likely not like McConnell’s projected result, however: a Louisville win. McConnell, the Senate majority leader, also has the Cardinals going on to defeat the Duke Blue Devils in the national championship game.
It was surely a difficult decision for McConnell not just because he would be upset a portion of his constituents no matter which team he selected to advance, but because he holds degrees from both universities. McConnell earned his undergraduate degree at Louisville before attending law school in Lexington.
