Kentucky vs. Wichita State was a classic when the teams first met up during the 2014 NCAA Tournament, but the 2017 version might have been even better. A back-and-forth game for all 40 minutes, it was decided in the final minute when the Wildcats came up with 2 crucial blocks on the Shockers’ last possessions.
Both were huge, but it was the first, by Malik Monk, that really allowed Kentucky to put this one away. A 1-point game when the shot was blocked, Monk recovered the ball and got fouled. He would then make both free throws to put the Wildcats up 3. The best Wichita State could do at that point was tie the game, but another block — this time by Bam Adebayo — clinched the victory. Of course, fans and media members were fired up about Monk’s late game performance:

What a block by Malik Monk. Season saver? We'll see. Monk going to line for 2 FTs with Cats up 63-62 and 10.6 secs left. WSU with no TOs.

@KySportsRadio Malik Monk did it all the last two minutes: nail a huge 3-pointer, put up a monster block and hit two CLUTCH free throws!!!

Malik Monk isn't great in every moment of every game. But good lord is he huge in big moments. That block might be the play of the year
