Wichita State players talked a lot of trash in the short period leading up to their 65-62 loss to Kentucky in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament on Sunday, but it was the Wildcats who had the last laugh.
Kentucky’s star post player Bam Adebayo entered the contest coming off a 15-point, 18-rebound performance against Northern Kentucky in the opening round of the tournament on Friday.
“That’s going to get shut down tomorrow.”
Those were the words of Wichita State’s Darral Willis Jr. on Saturday, before going on to say that Kentucky was “nothing special” in advance of the Shockers’ loss.

How did things turn out on Sunday?
SEC Country’s Kyle Tucker was all over the reaction from the Kentucky players, who were very much paying attention to all the pregame chatter.
Adebayo just kept doing what he does best, logging a double-double with 13 points an 10 rebounds during the Kentucky victory on Sunday. And then his mother got the last laugh on behalf of both her son and the rest of Big Blue Nation. As for Willis, he had two points and one rebound in eight minutes of action.
WKYT-TV reporter and anchor Tanner Hesterberg posted video of an interview with Bam Adebayo’s mother, Marilyn Blount, in the moments following the victory of the Shockers. She didn’t seem to forget what was said by Wichita State, proclaiming: “He didn’t shut Bam down, did he?! Bam went at him!”
