Mark Stoops: Stanley “Boom” Williams has not quit team
Sticks and stones may break bones, but tweets can do even more damage.
Rumors have circulated on social media about Kentucky’s Stanley “Boom” Williams, and while coach Mark Stoops said his top tailback would be back with the team on Monday, his ambiguity about Williams’ playing situation isn’t helping.
Stoops has said little about why Williams didn’t play in the Wildcats’ 34-27 victory over Eastern Kentucky.
Stoops said Williams was experiencing “a personal issue” that would remain in-house.
He then dropped to No. 2 behind Jojo Kemp on the depth chart and didn’t practice last week before watching Kentucky’s win over Eastern Kentucky in street clothes.
Several red flags were raised after Williams didn’t touch the field in the fourth quarter of the win over Missouri on Sept. 26. He was Kentucky’s leading rusher in 2014 and entered that game leading the Wildcats on the ground this season.
Stoops says Boom Williams will be back Monday.
