Georgia TE Lawson Luckie Injury Update Provided by Kirby Smart

Georgia’s 41-21 win over Mississippi State was briefly overshadowed by an unsettling moment late in the first half when tight end Lawson Luckie absorbed a hard collision to the helmet and needed on-field attention before walking to the sideline for further checks. The defender, Jahron Manning, was called for targeting and ejected from the game. But it’s worth noting that he took the time to check on Luckie.

He remained out for the rest of the game, though head coach Kirby Smart confirmed afterward that the sophomore was alert and recovering well. Smart said Luckie wanted to rejoin the action, but team doctors made the call to keep him sidelined for the remainder of the contest.

“He obviously got a shot to the head. But he’s fine, he’s moving,” said Smart. “He wanted to go back in the game. But the decision makers held him out.”

While Smart didn’t offer a specific timeline for his return, the initial feedback was optimistic. A more formal update on his condition is expected next week once the SEC’s weekly injury reports are issued.

Entering the game, Luckie had recorded 10 catches for 81 yards. He did not record a catch on Saturday. Elyiss Williams and Jaden Reddel saw more snaps in his absence and Oscar Delp had 3 catches for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Georgia’s 41–21 victory moved the team to 8–1 and completed an unbeaten slate in conference road games. The Bulldogs now turn their attention to a highly anticipated matchup at home against No. 11 Texas, scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff in Athens.
