NEW ORLEANS — Entering his senior season, McDonogh 35 High School (La.) defensive end Sci Martin faced lofty expectations. Without question, he’s living up to the hype.
Martin, rated as the No. 44 player in Louisiana and sixth-best defensive end, leads New Orleans with 20.5 sacks through seven games this season.
That production has correlated with increased interest from SEC schools.
LSU and Missouri are among a handful of SEC powers to have offered Martin. Both Tigers have found their way into Martin’s top five.
“They are saying (my production) has been insane,” Martin said. “It’s great. It feels awesome to be leading in the city as well.”
LSU, Missouri, Oklahoma, Utah and TCU comprise Martin’s top five. That is in no particular order.
Additionally, Martin has no visits planned in the coming weeks.
The defensive end said his sack totals have peaked the interest of the aforementioned five schools, who view Martin as a good fit in their respective systems.
“They like me as a playmaker,” Martin said. “The coaching staffs (are important) because it means there’s chemistry.”
