LSU’s Jamal Adams was one of the top defensive backs in the country last year. But according to one NFL draft expert, he’s much more than that. He’s the top prospect in this year’s NFL draft.
Bucky Brooks, an NFL draft expert for NFL Network, named Adams his top prospect for the 2017 class. That’s ahead of Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett, who just about everybody has pegged as the No. overall 1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
“I’ve long believed the charismatic safety is poised to make the biggest impact of any prospect in the draft,” Brooks wrote. “His combination of traits leads me to believe he will be a superstar at the next level. When I spoke to several coaches about Adams at the combine, I repeatedly heard them rave about his enthusiastic personality and natural leadership skills.”
Adams ran a blistering 4,33-second 40-yard dash at his pro day this week. It’s not all that outlandish to call Adams the top prospect. He’s a phenomenal player, as is Garrett. The reason the Browns may not take Adams with the No. 1 overall pick is because a pass rusher has a potential to have bigger impact from down to down.
In the latest SEC Country mock draft, Adams is pegged to go No. 3 to the Chicago Bears. Since 1991, only one safety has been taken higher in the draft. And no safety has been taken with the No. 1 overall pick.
