2017 SEC Country Power Poll: Where LSU is ranked (Week 8)

Alex Hickey

LSU enters its bye week on a high note and a slightly elevated spot in the SEC Country Power Poll.

Following its 40-24 win at Ole Miss, LSU moved into a fourth-place tie with Texas A&M in the SEC Power Poll. The Aggies had a bye week, and ended up tied with the Tigers with 232 points. LSU ranked fifth in the SEC Country Power Poll last week.

The Tigers overwhelmed the Rebels defense for 593 total yards, 393 of which came on the ground. Derrius Guice picked up the lion’s share with 276 yards on 22 attempts, marking the second-best game by a rusher in LSU history. Guice established that record himself with 285 yards against Texas A&M last season.

Darrel Williams proved to be an outstanding threat in complement to Guice, becoming the first LSU player to eclipse 100 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards in the same game.

The LSU defense was also effective against Ole Miss’ potent offense, limiting SEC passing leader Shea Patterson to 116 yards and 3 interceptions on 10 of 23 passing. However, it was revealed after the game that Patterson played the second half on a torn right posterior cruciate ligament.

LSU’s opportunity to really make noise comes in two weeks. The Tigers (6-2, 3-1 SEC) visit No. 1 Alabama (8-0, 5-0), which has received every first-place vote in the weekly SEC Country Power Poll this season.

The SEC Country Power Poll is voted on by more than two dozen SEC Country staff members who cover the league. Check back here every Sunday for the latest rankings.
