An otherwise positive day for LSU recruiting took an unfortunate turn late Tuesday afternoon, as three-star wide receiver Da’Monte Coxie announced his de-commitment on Twitter.
“I would like to thank God for making my dream come to reality and I would also like to thank all the coaches at Louisiana State University for offering me a scholarship,” Coxie tweeted. “It’s always been my dream to be a Tiger (and) to know that I was good enough to play in Death Valley. However, after a lot of thinking and praying, my family and I talked about it and I’ve decided to de-commit from LSU.”
A 6-foot-3, 175-pound wide receiver, Coxie also holds offers from Alabama and Florida, among others.
Coxie only took one official visit to LSU, despite mulling over the notion of taking an official visit to Tuscaloosa, Ala.
LSU’s 2016 class is heavily embedded with wide receiver talent, with commitments from four-star prospects in Stephen Sullivan, Dee Anderson and Drake Davis.
Coxie’s de-commitment drops LSU’s total number of commitments down to 22 and number of total wide receivers down to three.
The Tigers are not considered finalists for any other wide receiver in this year’s class.
