Star LSU defensive end / outside linebacker Arden Key on Friday tweeted that he is “ahead of schedule” in his recovery from surgery on his left shoulder.
Key missed all of spring ball at LSU for undisclosed reasons after taking a “leave of absence” from football. He has since returned to the program but hasn’t participated in summer workouts.

In 2016, Key set LSU’s single-season record for sacks with 11. His head coach gave an update on Key’s status on Monday at SEC Media Days.
“We won’t know nothing for a while there,” Ed Orgeron said. “This is going to be a rehab that’s going to take some time. We don’t have a time limit on it, but as far as everything we’re hearing, it’s going to be fine. I don’t know when he’ll be back or what time he’ll be back. He will not be [ready for camp] for sure.
“If he’s ready for the first game, he’ll be ready. But if he’s not, he’s not. I think it’ll be week-by-week.”
Earlier in the day on Friday, Key was named first-team All-SEC ahead of the 2017 season along with teammate Derrius Guice.
