LSU commit Saivion Smith hasn’t been to Baton Rouge this season, but that changes when he takes an official visit Oct. 17 for the Florida game.
Smith, a 5-star cornerback from IMG Academy, told the AJC’s SECCountry.com that he will take all five official visits and has some schools in mind.
“I wanted to see Florida, but that’s out of the question now,” Smith said.” I want to see UCLA. I have a great relationship with (UCLA defensive backs coach Demetrice) Martin. I want to see Tennessee. I want to see what they have to offer. I also want to visit Florida State as well.”
The nation’s No. 2 cornerback has been committed to LSU since February. It’s always nerve-wracking when commits want to visit other schools, but Smith says there’s nothing to be concerned about.
“LSU fans have nothing to worry about with these official visits,” Smith said. “When I committed, I talked to coach (Les) Miles and he told me that I could take all of my official visits and go wherever I wanted to go.”
Smith says he’s working on hard on getting his IMG Academy teammate Shavar Manuel to join the Tigers. Manuel will take an official to LSU and has the Tigers near the top of his list of favorites.
Despite not visiting campus for a game yet, Smith says he still keeps up with how LSU is doing and he has some big predictions for how the rest of the season is going to play out.
“I think we’re going to win out,” Smith said. “I think we’ll have some bumps in the road, but we have No. 7 on the team (LSU running back Leonard Fournette). That guy is a grown man on the field. I think (Florida State running back) Dalvin Cook is his biggest competition in the Heisman right now and the running back from Ohio State (Ezekiel Elliot).”
When the interview was wrapping up, Smith wanted to make sure he squeezed in one more message to the fans.
“I’m 110 percent committed to LSU,” he said. Go Tigers.”
