LSU is preparing to host one of Alabama’s most underrated offensive lineman this weekend.
Avery Winsett, an unranked offensive guard from Hazel Green (Ala.) High School, is set to make an unofficial visit to Baton Rouge this weekend to take in the Tigers’ scrimmage and meet with the coaching staff on Saturday, he informed SEC Country.
The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Alabama native lines up mostly at left tackle in his junior season film. However, Winsett translates to an interior line position at the next level. He has quick hands and feet and is oft-used as a pulling lineman. He is also quick to the point of attack as a pass-blocker and consistent in his approach. As a left tackle, his high school coaching staff is showing trust in Winsett at the team’s best offensive lineman.
LSU offensive line coach Jeff Grimes could extend an offer to Winsett this weekend. Either way, this inaugural visit will go a long way in developing a relationship between the Tigers’ staff and Winsett, which could lead to an overture at some point later in the recruiting cycle.
LSU currently holds commitments from two offensive linemen in its 2018 recruiting class: 4-star offensive guard Chasen Hines and 3-star center Cole Smith. The team is expected to pursue multiple offensive tackles to fill out the class.
