Former LSU standout Alex Bregman hit his first major league home run on Tuesday night for the Houston Astros.
Bregman’s opposite-field shot came in the first inning off St. Louis starting pitcher Jaime Garcia and it drove in two runs. Bregman entered the game struggling at the plate hitting .169 and that was after a recent eight-game hitting streak.

Bregman seems to be finally feeling more confident at the plate after being promoted in late-July. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see more of this as the baseball season enters the playoff chase in these next six weeks. The former first-team All-American at LSU might never develop into a big power hitter, but he should hit for a much better average the more at-bats he gets in the major leagues.
