LSU missed out on Lane Kiffin as its potential offensive coordinator. But it may have its next hire lined up.
Shortly after Kiffin agreed to take the Florida Atlantic job on Monday, LSU zeroed in on Pitt offensive coordinator Matt Canada. Multiple outlets reported that Canada and LSU are set to meet early on Tuesday.
And now Ross Dellenger of The Advocate is reporting that an announcement regarding LSU’s next offensive coordinator could come shortly afterward on Tuesday.
LSU has also vetted former USC head coach Steve Sarkisian and former Oregon coach Mark Helfrich, but Canada has been the favorite given the Kiffin news.
Canada has been the offensive coordinator at a number of Power 5 schools, including Wisconsin, N.C. State and this season at Pittsburgh. Against No. 2 Clemson, the Pitt offense put up 43 points in a stunning win. The Panthers also accumulated 42 points in a victory against No. 5 Penn State.
LSU went 7-4 this season and will take on Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson and Louisville in the Citrus Bowl on Dec. 31.
