Former LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis’ legal dispute with the school will continue after an appeals court denied Chavis’ motion to dismiss LSU’s suit.
LSU is suing Chavis for failing to pay a $400,000 buyout when he left to become defensive coordinator at Texas A&M. The school says Chavis left in December 2014, and his contract’s buyout clause extended through Jan. 31, 2015.
Chavis, meanwhile, has claimed he didn’t leave until Feb. 1, 2015, even though reports of his move began surfacing in December. His attorney has also argued that since the school changed the contract in 2013, the buyout should be voided.
The former LSU assistant also says the school owes him $645,000 between penalty wages and unpaid wages and bonuses.
