Country music star and former Hootie and the Blowfish lead singer Darius Rucker was in Baton Rouge on Saturday night performing at the Bayou Country Superfest, and he dedicated the Prince song “Purple Rain” to the LSU football team, Chelsea Brasted of NOLA.com reported.
That may seem odd in coming from a South Carolina alumnus, but it was a gesture rooted in gratitude for the Tigers making the Gamecocks feel at home when a would-be home game at Williams-Brice Stadium last October had to be relocated to Tiger Stadium in the wake of flooding in the Columbia, S.C. area.
“They treated us so well,” Rucker said of the experience, per the report. “I appreciate (LSU coach) Les Miles and the whole athletic department. … This goes out to Coach Miles and his team.”
Well done, Darius. We got goosebumps.
