BATON ROUGE, La. — Before moving on to football-related matters, LSU interim coach Ed Orgeron took a moment at the start of his SEC teleconference call to remember the life of mascot Mike VI, who died Tuesday after battling cancer.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Mike,” Orgeron said. “A tremendous tradition we have here, hearing that tiger roar in the cage across from Tiger Stadium. We’re going to miss him.”
Mike was LSU’s sixth live tiger mascot dating back to 1932. He arrived on campus in 2007. A memorial service is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at his enclosure on LSU’s campus.
LSU returns home to face Southern Miss Saturday night following the postponement of last week’s scheduled game at Florida due to Hurricane Matthew.
