SAINT JAMES, La. — Interim coach Ed Orgeron began to create a blueprint for his future at LSU earlier this month when he stated that he plans on recruiting pro-style quarterbacks.
To be precise, coach O took the radio waves to say: “I want a pro-style quarterback. Louisiana has been rich in quarterbacks and pro-style quarterbacks.”
LSU holds commitments from two of the best in that department: 4-star Mississippi pro-style passer Myles Brennan and 4-star Louisiana dual-threat quarterback Lowell Narcisse.
The latter is Louisiana’s top-rated quarterback in 2017 and among the best in the nation. When he got word that Orgeron is seeking a pro-style quarterback, Narcisse was relatively unfazed.
As Narcisse sees it, there is little reason to worry.
“They gave me the opportunity to go in and compete for the job,” Narcisse told SEC Country, “and that’s what I’m going to do.”
The St. James High School product is two months removed from a second ACL tear, but is well ahead of schedule. He recently resumed throwing and putting weight on his left leg and is expected to be a full participant in LSU’s spring practices this March.
Narcisse, who will enroll early, was on hand for the early portion of LSU’s win over Southern Miss. During pregame warmups, Orgeron, running backs coach Jabbar Juluke and a host of other LSU coaches made their way over to the prized quarterback.
“They were asking how I was doing and they can’t wait to see me play in the stadium,” Narcisse said.
It was the 4-star recruit’s first LSU game of the season and his first taste of the program under Orgeron’s direction.
Like so many other prospects who have visited Baton Rouge in recent weeks, the difference between Les Miles and Orgeron is palpable. Narcisse smiled when discussing the new feel around Tiger Stadium.
“Just being around those guys and seeing everything … it’s a lot better,” the quarterback stated. “I get the feel of the guys, I feel the confidence and the different feel around there. There’s a whole lot more energy. Everyone is fired up, everyone is ready to go and everyone is playing fast.”
