LSU had victory at its fingertips, but a big play by Notre Dame with less than 2 minutes left did in the Tigers.
The 55-yard Irish scoring pass with 1:28 left was tough to handle, but you have to go back a possession to find what really upset LSU fans after the 21-17 loss.
Facing fourth-and-goal inside the Irish 1-yard line, coach Ed Orgeron opted to kick the short field goal. It was good and LSU led 17-14 with 2:03 to play in the game. As you’ll see below, Tigers fans aren’t happy that their team didn’t try to punch it into the end zone.

Anthony Balsano: Doesn’t matter LSU coach is gutless. 1 inch line and I kick fg in a bowl game? Deserve to lose
Derek Comford: Coaching — play calling was predictable, and red zone play calls particularly were awful. 4th and goal QB sneak with Guice in backfield and the 4th and inches and we go to the FG. Are you serious???
Amanda Loupe: LSU beat themselves…Sad to say…2 missed field goals…Quarterback can’t connect with the receivers.
Mark Brommer: Terrible coaching, lack of preparation, turmoil in the front office between coaches and AD!!! So many factors why we lost this game. One team, one heartbeat my Ass!!!!!! This team no longer has heart!!!
Keith Dugas: Running backs like Guice and Williams and you don’t think you can get an inch on the goal line? Show of no confidence. Sad.
Richard Angelle: Worst game they played all year except for Troy State. Play calling sucked and where was the offensive front line. Did they even show up. Red zone play calls horrible.
Myra Chaison Waites: I win with the Tigers and lose with the Tigers. Tackling was terrible as usual. Both sides of the ball was disappointing. Love LSU.
Mike Kavanaugh: Pretty sad to not have a play in your book to score a TD from the 3 inch line. And miss two field goals.
Brian J Lawson: As long as we allow and accept this sort of play calling, LSU is and will continue to remain in a stage of “mediocrity” at best…very disappointing as a fan.
Jason Phillips: Just can’t believe Coach O didn’t go for it on 4th and inches for the TD. QB sneak would have gotten in easily.
Russ Johnson: I’m so used to seeing games like this from LSU now, I don’t even get upset ….I’m always prepared to lose.
