No. 1 overall NBA draft pick Ben Simmons changes cell phones so often that he can’t even remember his own phone number.
Simmons, who played college basketball at LSU last season, told ForTheWin’s Nina Mandell he changes phones whenever he feels like too many people have his number. Apparently, that happens pretty often. Seven times since he graduated high school, to be exact.
“I changed my number during college about six times,” Simmons said. “I changed it again just this weekend. It’s hard to keep in touch.”
He likes his privacy. That’s why, like another notable LSU figure, Les Miles, he doesn’t have Snapchat either.
There is a long history of NBA stars getting exploited by supposed friends and hangers on. Simmons said people have already contacted him asking for money.
“I think people realized as long as you’re family and you’ve been there for a long time, I always look out for my family,” he said. “But if it’s someone I don’t know, I’m not going to help them.”
The Philadelphia 76ers signed Simmons on July 2. He will make more than $5.9 million in salary this season.
